Speaker 0 00:00:25 New Meet.
Speaker 2 00:00:35 Welcome to the Village Kids Advent podcast. This is December 19th, and we're gonna be talking about a special woman who is in the story of Advent. Her name is Anna. But before we get into that, I am going to intro introduce to you our host for today. And what is your name? Host
Speaker 1 00:00:52 Mackenzie.
Speaker 2 00:00:53 And Mackenzie, what grade are you in
Speaker 1 00:00:55 First
Speaker 2 00:00:56 And what's your favorite thing about first grade?
Speaker 1 00:00:59 Um, that there's just a lot of friends that I know that I met in kindergarten. Okay.
Speaker 2 00:01:05 And so you've gotten to still kind of keep those friends in first grade? Yeah. And you're enjoying them? Yeah. Friends are such a gift, aren't they? Yes. Yes. And so before we dive into the topic of Anna, I have a couple questions for you. Mackenzie. What are you looking forward to most about Christmas this year?
Speaker 1 00:01:21 Probably sing all my family and friends.
Speaker 2 00:01:24 What do you like to do with your family and friends at Christmas time?
Speaker 1 00:01:26 Um, bake cookies.
Speaker 2 00:01:28 Ooh, man. That's a popular thing that kids like to do. So tell me, what kind of cookies do you like to make?
Speaker 1 00:01:34 Sometimes star cookies and sometimes um, Santa cookies.
Speaker 2 00:01:41 Those both sound very yummy. Um, my favorite Christmas cookie are the, um, peanut butter ones with the little chocolate Hershey in the middle. Have you had those before? They're
Speaker 1 00:01:51 Delicious. Yeah, I know.
Speaker 2 00:01:52 You know what I'm talking about. Yeah. Um, and so as you're looking forward to Christmas, this whole advent season, we're talking about the adventure of Christmas. And so Mackenzie, I'm wondering what is a favorite adventure that you have been on in your life?
Speaker 1 00:02:07 Probably going, uh, to places with my family, like at the park.
Speaker 2 00:02:14 Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Do you like to go to New Park? So do you like to go to the same park like over and over again?
Speaker 1 00:02:19 Sometimes the same park and sometimes not. Girl,
Speaker 2 00:02:23 I get that right. You're like, sometimes I need a new set setting and sometimes I just wanna go to what's familiar. Right? Yeah. Okay. So when you go on these kind of adventures, what is one thing you just love about adventures in general?
Speaker 1 00:02:36 Um, that I get to play and, uh, sometimes if there's his, I get to roll down them.
Speaker 2 00:02:44 Ooh, that is a fun thing to be able to roll down a hill, right?
Speaker 1 00:02:47 Yeah.
Speaker 2 00:02:48 Does it make you dizzy at the end or does it just make you feel like you're excited and happy?
Speaker 1 00:02:52 It just makes me feel like I'm happy and excited so I can do it again. Yep.
Speaker 2 00:02:57 So you should do that as much as, as possible while it's still fun. Um, okay. So what do you like least about adventures though? Like when you go on these kinda adventures, what you
Speaker 1 00:03:05 Like? I have to walk.
Speaker 2 00:03:07 Oh, is that just hard? Sometimes?
Speaker 1 00:03:09 Yeah. My legs get tired, <laugh>, and sometimes we forget our waters. Oh.
Speaker 2 00:03:15 And then you're just parched and so thirsty and to walk for so long. Yeah. Yeah. That's been a common thing that kids are like, I love adventures. And sometimes they just get too long. Yeah. Yep. That's true. All right, so we're gonna be talking about Anna today and where are we going? So let's just talk about that a little bit. Can you tell us anything about Anna?
Speaker 1 00:03:37 She's an old woman. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> and she went to the temple every day to pray to God.
Speaker 2 00:03:45 Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. You're exactly right. Anna is celebrating the fact that God kept his promise after she had waited a long time going to the temple every day, waiting to see his promise. And she's a widow, right? So she's on her own means her husband died. And so she's an old woman who's alone and she's just waiting for the Lord to keep his promise to her. So I have a quick question for you. Yeah. What do you think you are more focused on than anything else? What do you think gets the most of like your focus or what you think about during the day?
Speaker 1 00:04:15 Probably my family gets me the most focused. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And then when I think about in the day, I think about Jesus. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, every night I pray to Jesus. Mm-hmm.
Speaker 2 00:04:29 <affirmative>. I love that. And what are some of the things that you pray about? What are some things you talk to him about? What's some things he like maybe says to you? Like, how does that work?
Speaker 1 00:04:38 I just pray, play to him and then hear, answer and like say this is gonna happen or mm-hmm. <affirmative>, something's gonna happen. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. So,
Speaker 2 00:04:51 And that's probably what Anna experienced a little bit too, right? She went every day at the temple, which is where they did a lot of their praying. And she was, do you know what she was looking for? What, what was she hoping for
Speaker 1 00:05:01 That the new son that God said that he would bring?
Speaker 2 00:05:07 Exactly. Right. She's like, Lord, where is this new son? Where is this saver that you said you're gonna bring? Yeah, I'm gonna meet him, right? Yeah. Yeah. So you're exactly right. Mary and Joseph. Right? We are looking at the Anna every single solitary day in the temple. She's missing meals. She's totally focused. She's just asking God, where is this savior? And Mary and Joseph have taken baby Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem and an old man that they've never met before tells them that their baby will be a light for all. Then an old woman, Anna. Right. She joins in with equal excitement. So we're gonna read a passage and we're gonna be looking out for what gets Anna most excited here. So it's Luke two verses 36 through 38. Anna a prophets was there at the temple she used from the family of Thaniel in the tribe of Asher. And Anna was very old or young, what do you think old.
Speaker 1 00:06:02 Mm-hmm.
Speaker 2 00:06:02 <affirmative>. She had once been married for seven years, then her husband died and she lived alone. And she's now 84 years old. Anna never left the temple. She worshiped God by going without food and praying day and night. She was standing there with Mary and Joseph and Simeon at that time, thanking God. She talked about Jesus to all who are waiting for God to free Jerusalem. And then what did she say about him
Speaker 1 00:06:29 That the new son is born?
Speaker 2 00:06:31 And do you think she was like bored with that? Or do you think she was really excited
Speaker 1 00:06:35 About that? She was really excited.
Speaker 2 00:06:37 She was really excited. So are there promises that you are still waiting for God to keep Mackenzie? Anything in your life that you're like, yeah, this is how Anna was waiting for this promise. I'm waiting for God to do this.
Speaker 1 00:06:49 Uh, yeah.
Speaker 2 00:06:50 What? Tell me.
Speaker 1 00:06:51 I just really, um, sometimes I pray to and say, can you please, um, just look over me mm-hmm. <affirmative> when I, um, have bad times mm-hmm. <affirmative> or get Yeah. To
Speaker 2 00:07:08 Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And so you're, you're like, okay, Lord, this is a promise I'm asking you to keep, is that you watch over me. Right. And that you'll see me. And it sounds like you're saying that you would protect me. And so you're seeing him do that now, and then you're asking him to do that in the future. I love it. And we see that Anna was so focused in God's promises too, in Jesus that that's what her focus was on. Yeah. And I love that you said your focus so much on your family, right. And then asking God for things. And so why was Anna Moose excited about this baby? What was this baby all about?
Speaker 1 00:07:42 Jesus.
Speaker 2 00:07:43 Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And what was he gonna do? Like what,
Speaker 1 00:07:45 What She was gonna save the wood.
Speaker 2 00:07:47 That's right. And she had a longing in her heart Right. For that need to be saved. Right. And she's like, we need a savior. And that's exactly what God was offering in Jesus when he was born. So we say that Anna and Simeon were both pretty old, right. And they've been waiting for a long time. Do you think that sometimes people think that they're too old for Jesus?
Speaker 1 00:08:08 No. No.
Speaker 2 00:08:09 What do you think if someone thought they were like, uh, I don't know about this whole Jesus and the manger Advent Christmas thing. I think that's just, I think that's fake. I think that's for kids. What, what would you say to them? What do you think Anne and Simeon would say to them?
Speaker 1 00:08:21 I think they would say, um, no. That it's not fake. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, he's coming.
Speaker 2 00:08:28 That's right. And why do we all need Jesus
Speaker 1 00:08:32 To save the word? Mm-hmm.
Speaker 2 00:08:34 <affirmative>. And what about for you? Why do you need Jesus?
Speaker 1 00:08:37 Probably, um, because I just need him to watch over my family. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>,
Speaker 2 00:08:45 Do you need to be saved too? Yeah. Yeah. And what do you need to be saved from
Speaker 1 00:08:49 Sin.
Speaker 2 00:08:50 That's right. And is there anything else that can save you from sin? If you try really hard, hard and do lots of good works, will that save you?
Speaker 1 00:08:57 No.
Speaker 2 00:08:58 Nope. There's only one way to be saved.
Speaker 1 00:09:01 Yeah.
Speaker 2 00:09:02 And that is by Jesus. Right. And that he can take our sins. He paid the price for our sins. He carries the like yucky parts that are sins like did in our life and in our story. And he's like, I'm gonna take those for you. You don't have to carry them around. You can live in freedom and you can live a life that's different and then come and be in heaven with me at eternity. And that's pretty exciting what you say. Yeah. Yep. And I think that's what Anna wanted. She's like, the world needs this so bad. They need to be relieved of their sins. They need to have it paid for once and for all. So she was so excited. Any other thoughts on Anna that you'd like just to share with us?
Speaker 1 00:09:40 No,
Speaker 2 00:09:40 I think we've covered it pretty well, don't you?
Speaker 1 00:09:42 Yeah.
Speaker 2 00:09:42 All right. Well then Ms. Mackenzie, can you close this in prayer for today?
Speaker 1 00:09:46 Yeah. Dear Lord, thank you for this, um, wonderful morning, and I hope today's a good day. And just thank you for sending your son, Lord Jesus, and just thank you for helping other people if they're having bad times. Amen.
Speaker 2 00:10:12 Amen. All right. Can you close today's podcast by just wishing our listeners and Merry Christmas.
Speaker 1 00:10:18 Merry Christmas.
