Speaker 2 00:00:45 Well, now we know exactly where this story is going. Eventually he kind of plays a couple. He kind of does important things in the middle of that though tricks. Speaker 3 00:00:54 Tricks Speaker 2 00:00:56 Mean by doing tricks. <laugh>. Okay, before we jump into that though, I'm gonna let my special guest for today introduce himself, um, and special guest. What's your name? Speaker 3 00:01:06 Hudson. Speaker 2 00:01:07 And Hudson. What grade are you in? Speaker 3 00:01:09 Kindergarten. Speaker 2 00:01:10 And what is your favorite thing about kindergarten? Speaker 3 00:01:15 Being homeschooled. Speaker 2 00:01:16 Yeah. And what's your favorite thing about being homeschooled? Having Speaker 3 00:01:19 A good time and doing math. Math and reading. Speaker 2 00:01:23 Oh, so you like all the things? Yeah. Having a good time, math, reading Hudson. Yep. It likes all the student things. I love it. And so, Hudson, I have a couple of questions for you. First one is, what are you looking forward to most about Christmas this year? Hanging Speaker 3 00:01:38 Out with my family. Opening presents and having your normal fight. Speaker 2 00:01:42 Oh my goodness. Who do you usually have a snowball fight with? Speaker 3 00:01:45 My mom and dad. And sister. Speaker 2 00:01:47 Okay. So who usually wins? Or is this not like a winning competition? It's just like a fun competition or Speaker 3 00:01:53 It's like a fun competition. Speaker 2 00:01:54 Okay. If there was a winner, who would be the winner? Speaker 3 00:01:57 Uh, Speaker 2 00:01:57 Me. Yeah, that's what I was thinking you were gonna say. That's the answer I was looking for. I would totally thank you. Speaker 3 00:02:02 If you were gonna be in, I would like win because I would like put it in your face. <laugh>. Speaker 2 00:02:10 Ow. That sounds painful. <laugh>. Um, you don't know because maybe I'm actually like the best snowball fighter you've ever met. Speaker 4 00:02:19 No, you're not. Speaker 2 00:02:22 Well that's to be determined and I officially challenge you to a snowball off when we have the opportunity. All right. So tell me what is your Speaker 3 00:02:32 Favorite? Yeah, I know something. Speaker 2 00:02:33 Yeah, I wanna know all the things. Speaker 3 00:02:35 Tomorrow is Halloween. Speaker 2 00:02:36 I know secretly we're recording a Christmas podcast the day before Halloween. It looks like based upon your face, you're pretty excited about the Halloween. Yes. Are you excited about Christmas more? Speaker 3 00:02:48 Yeah. Speaker 2 00:02:48 Is it because you don't get to dress up for Christmas? Maybe I should buy you like a Grinch costume and you could wear that around cuz you, you're quite the costumer Speaker 4 00:02:56 I'm gonna be a Speaker 0 00:02:59 For Speaker 2 00:02:59 For Christmas. Speaker 3 00:03:01 No, I got a costume like today and it was like Speaker 2 00:03:04 So cool. I have no doubt that you are gonna be like a cool guy both for a costume and when you get older. But here's my question for you. What is your favorite adventure that you've been on? Speaker 3 00:03:16 An egg adventure. Like I like get all like the eggs from the chickens. Oh yeah. I were asking and they like get like tricked. Speaker 2 00:03:25 Okay. And so where did you have this adventure? You on a farm you were hunting for chicken, eggs can Speaker 3 00:03:30 Yeah. And they were like kid and I and I like find them everywhere. Yeah. And one was like in the top roof and have to climb there with a tree. Speaker 2 00:03:41 Okay. Did you break any of the eggs during your adventure? Speaker 3 00:03:44 No. Speaker 2 00:03:44 Oh, look at you. You're like an egg extraordinaire. All right. I like it. So when you go on adventures, that sounds like a good one, trying to find the eggs. But when you go on adventures, what do you like most about adventures? Speaker 3 00:03:56 Sing the eggs and finding them. Speaker 2 00:03:58 What do you like most about all the adventures you've ever been on? How do they make you feel? Happy? Yeah. They make you feel excited. Yeah. Yeah. There's something about a sense of adventure that makes your heart just beat a little bit faster and it's like, ah, this is so exciting. Yes. What do you like least about adventures? Speaker 3 00:04:14 Not like seeing the cool stuff. Speaker 2 00:04:17 Oh, like when you miss out? Yeah. Yeah. That's true. Do you think Mary and Joseph, when they're on their adventure at Christmas time, do you think that they missed out on anything? Speaker 3 00:04:27 No. Speaker 2 00:04:28 No. They, they hit it all up. So I have a question for you. Okay. Where are we going today? Bethlem. Yeah. To Bethlehem. Right. And is there a secret or an amazing fact that only you know? Speaker 3 00:04:42 Yes. Speaker 2 00:04:42 Tell me about it. Speaker 3 00:04:44 It's like seeing my favorite like heart. Speaker 2 00:04:48 Mm-hmm. Speaker 3 00:04:48 <affirmative> because the heart is like the only thing that I know because I like know how it feels. Speaker 2 00:04:56 It's like inside of your heart. Yeah. It's your heart. You are the only person who can totally know how that heart feels. Speaker 3 00:05:04 Not anyone else. Speaker 2 00:05:05 That's right. Speaker 3 00:05:05 Oh my God, Speaker 2 00:05:06 I'm so glad you put that in there because can it feel lonely sometimes to be the only person who knows exactly how your heart feels? Speaker 3 00:05:12 Yeah. But can you ride one wheeling? Speaker 2 00:05:15 Um, I cannot. Well I used to be able to. I'm not sure if I can anymore. I'm pretty sure the answer's no. But I'm gonna ask you a question. Yeah. Can you ride one wheeling? Speaker 3 00:05:27 Yes. Speaker 2 00:05:28 Oh my goodness. And so since you're the only person who knows what's going on in your heart and sometimes that can feel lonely, but God knows, what are we gonna say? Speaker 3 00:05:38 I'm joking. I can't ride farm. Lying. You're Speaker 2 00:05:41 Joking. Thank you for confessing to the podcast Speaker 3 00:05:45 <laugh>, Speaker 2 00:05:47 This moment of truth. Speaker 3 00:05:50 When are we going to Bethlehem? Speaker 2 00:05:52 Um, right now. That's what I was just about to say because we're going to Bethlehem. Are we ready? Ready. Should we do a spin in our circles? Yeah, A spin in our chairs. All right. But we're gonna move our microphone though so we don't hit 'em this time. Ready? I hope that our listeners can journey with us. It's everyone turn around in a circle. We're still Speaker 5 00:06:11 Hitting our microphones. Keep going. You got it. It's most difficult Circle Hudsons ever turned around. And here we're is Speaker 3 00:06:21 Bethlehem. Speaker 2 00:06:23 Bethlehem. Let's look around at the city. What do we find here in the city? What's going on? It's like a hustle and bustle. The town is really busy. Why is everyone so busy? Speaker 3 00:06:31 Maybe they're like having a party. Speaker 2 00:06:34 Kind of. We are seeing today that the brightest religious minds find out the secret of where the promise king was being born. It's a little bit like a party. They definitely bring gifts those wise men do. But today we're in Bethlehem because we see that Herod and the religious leaders and the wise men discovered that God's promise king would be born there in Bethlehem of Speaker 3 00:06:55 Three men. Yep, Speaker 2 00:06:56 That's exactly right. And those three men named the Speaker 3 00:06:59 Wise men. Speaker 2 00:07:00 Yep. They're going to go find Jesus. And so that was the secret that they knew they're gonna go find that star. They're gonna go find Jesus. Just like the secret of your heart is one that you knew God had revealed to them that they needed to follow a star to go find baby Jesus was Speaker 3 00:07:16 The biggest star ever. Speaker 2 00:07:17 Can you imagine? What color do you think it was? Speaker 3 00:07:19 White? Speaker 2 00:07:20 Yep, I do too. Whiteish silver. Goldish whiteish. Silver goldish. So where are we in the Bible? Let's talk about today's story. These mysterious men from the east, they've rolled into Jerusalem. Maybe they were on one wheel, maybe they were on a camel, maybe they were walking. What is your personal professional opinion on how they got there? Speaker 2 00:07:42 I would agree with that. And they're looking for the newborn king of the Jews. What is hared going to say? Speaker 3 00:07:50 Go tell me when you find them. Speaker 2 00:07:52 Yeah, because what does he wanna do? Speaker 3 00:07:54 He wants to kill him. So another king doesn't celebrate Speaker 2 00:07:58 Him. That's right. He's kind of jealous in his heart, right? Yeah. Yeah. Like if we looked into Harrod's heart, I think we'd find a lot of selfishness in there and pride. And he is not excited that there's another king. He feels very threatened. And so we're gonna look out in the passage that I'm gonna read for how it was they're gonna find Christ the King. And we're in Matthew chapter two verses four through eight. Harrod called a meeting of all the leading priests and teachers in the law. He asked them where the Christ would be born and they answered in the town of Speaker 3 00:08:35 Fl Speaker 2 00:08:36 In Judea, the prophet wrote about this in the scriptures. But you m in the land of Judah, you are important among the rulers of Judah. A ruler will come from you and he will be like a shepherd for my people, the Israelites. And that was quoting Micah chapter Fi first two. So then, then Herod has secret meeting with the wise men from the east and he learned from them the exact time when they first saw the star. Then Herod sent the wise men to Speaker 3 00:09:04 To Bethlehem. And he said, when you see Jesus come back to me and tell me where he is. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:09:11 But what did he lie to them and say? Speaker 3 00:09:12 He said, Jesus is not gonna be the king. I wanna kill him so bad. So there's not another king in the world. Speaker 2 00:09:21 And I think that was all inside of his heart. But out loud to them, he said, oh, then I can go and worship him too. But was he telling the truth? Speaker 3 00:09:30 No. No. He felt like he was gonna lie because he's a bad guy and he the last, last, last person to be the first king. The last. The first, Speaker 2 00:09:43 The last. The first. And so Hart asked the priests and teachers about the new king. Where did they say the king would be born Speaker 3 00:09:49 That flew him. Speaker 2 00:09:51 And how did they know that? Because Speaker 3 00:09:53 The Wiseman told them Speaker 2 00:09:55 And they said, yeah, this is actually what the prophet Micah had prophesied 800 years later. And so all of these religious big wigs, they were answering Herod's question for how the baby would be born. Why would someone find out the truth about Jesus but do nothing about it? Why would Har know this and not want to go worship him for reels? Speaker 3 00:10:16 Because he just like felt like worshiping is like getting another person to be your team. Speaker 2 00:10:22 Mm-hmm. That's true. So if you're worshiping someone, you're kinda like on their team and you're like, you're cool and I want to celebrate you, but what did Herod, he wanted to be the only person that was being celebrated, right? Yeah. And so we see that here. He's really just all about himself. He thinks about himself. He wants to be the only person who's worshiped Speaker 3 00:10:40 And he wants to be the only person that like feels good and like has been good. Speaker 2 00:10:45 Quick question. Do you think Herod would've made a good friend? No. And do you think he made a good leader? No. No. It's hard when they're all about themselves, right? Speaker 3 00:10:54 Yeah. Because all of them are bad guys because he's a bad guy. He made everyone be a bad guy. That's Speaker 2 00:11:01 Right. It's kind of contagious when you're a bad leader. Yeah. I think what's interesting is the last line of the prophecy says a ruler will come from you. He'll be like a shepherd for my people. And we see that Herod is a very different ruler than a kind shepherd. Can you tell me what do you know about a shepherd? Speaker 3 00:11:19 Uh, I know that they're like really like good. Mm-hmm. Speaker 2 00:11:23 <affirmative>, they like take good care of their sheep. Right? They protect them, they make sure they're safe. If they are hurt, they restore them. They like keep them really near to them if they're still like weak and they make sure that they have everything they need to get strong again. He really helps them become who the sheep are supposed to be made to be. And so that's how Jesus loves us and that's how Jesus is gonna rule over us. But here they're experiencing Herod as just a hard, nasty, selfish person. Yeah. And I think that some people might think that Jesus is fake so they don't do anything about it. Right. They like know about Jesus, but they don't really believe in him. Speaker 3 00:11:55 Yeah. Speaker 2 00:11:56 Yeah. Speaker 3 00:11:56 Jesus is like he's not a real person. Speaker 2 00:11:59 Yeah. And he is. Right. Why do you think they get confused about that? Speaker 3 00:12:04 Because they like don't really know Jesus. Mm-hmm. Speaker 2 00:12:07 <affirmative>. Yeah. They don't know enough about him. Right. So they're making like ideas about him without really knowing who he says he is. Yeah. And so today, as we've been talking about on our way to Bethlehem and the role that Herod played with the Wiseman, it is, it's hard to find out that sometimes people would know about Jesus and they choose to do nothing about it. And you've done a good job of helping us understand how a ruler would be different if they were like a shepherd. They'd protect us, they'd be loving, they'd be sacrificial for us. Right? Yeah. And so Hudson, I'm wondering today, can you close us in prayer? Speaker 3 00:12:38 Yeah. Dear Lord Jesus, we hope that everyone in him is okay except the king. We hope that he never ever hurts us, but we never see him. Amen. Speaker 2 00:12:50 Amen. And I just thank you so much that you have given Hudson's its wisdom and I pray that you would help us to continue to see uh, your love for us. And Justice Hudson said that people don't believe in Jesus and they don't know him cuz they don't know him. Pray that you'd help us to know you better today. Pray this in your precious name. Amen. Amen. All right, Hudson, can you close our podcast today by wishing everyone and Merry Christmas. Speaker 3 00:13:12 Merry Christmas everyone. We hope that you have a good holiday. Boom. Speaker 2 00:13:22 Wouldn't it be so fun if we got to go to Bethle? Speaker 3 00:13:25 Are we? Speaker 2 00:13:26 I hope so. You ready to get started? Yeah. Let's see if where we end up. Speaker 3 00:13:32 Oh my gosh, I've never done that. Speaker 2 00:13:36 That's okay because maybe I'm actually like the best snowball fighter you've ever met. Speaker 7 00:13:41 No, you're not. Speaker 3 00:13:45 When are we going to bethle him?
