[00:00:14] Speaker A: Welcome to the Kids the Classics Advance Podcast. [00:00:18] Speaker B: And heaven and nature Sing. And heaven and nature Sing. And in nature. [00:00:31] Speaker C: Welcome back to the Village Kids and Five six Advent podcast. Today we're going to be talking about shepherds and angels. I have two very special guests. I'm going to let them introduce themselves. So go ahead and give me your first name and your grade. [00:00:42] Speaker D: My name is Lucas, and I'm in third grade. [00:00:45] Speaker A: My name is Naomi, and I'm in fifth grade. [00:00:48] Speaker C: All right, so Lucas and Naomi are going to be going on this journey with us today just to talk about joy that lasts and what in the. [00:00:55] Speaker E: World the shepherds and angels have to do with that. [00:00:58] Speaker C: And so, before we dig into some of our material, I have questions for you guys. Let's get to know you. [00:01:02] Speaker F: Okay. [00:01:03] Speaker C: What are you looking forward to most. [00:01:05] Speaker E: About Christmas this year? [00:01:08] Speaker A: I don't know. I think it's just like having your. [00:01:11] Speaker D: Elf on the shelf come and getting the presents on Christmas. [00:01:16] Speaker C: So it's kind of like building that anticipation, right? Yeah. [00:01:18] Speaker E: How about you, Naomi? [00:01:19] Speaker A: I'm just looking forward to all of our regular Christmas traditions. And just, like, the winter, the snow, just the coziness and just decorating and everything. [00:01:33] Speaker F: Yep. [00:01:33] Speaker C: The coziness. That's a great word. I've been trying to learn how to love cozy. It's a good thing. [00:01:36] Speaker F: Yeah. [00:01:37] Speaker C: All right, and so what is a gift that you have gotten in the past? You received this gift. What was a gift that you remember? You're like, whoa, this is fantastic. [00:01:46] Speaker D: Our dog, Mando. And last year, for Christmas, I got one of those, like, basketball pop shots things. [00:01:53] Speaker C: And that's been a lot of fun. [00:01:54] Speaker D: And then the year before, we got. [00:01:57] Speaker C: See? Yep. Like, new ones. Those are very memorable gifts. How about you, Naomi? [00:02:01] Speaker A: I'm gonna have to agree with, like, my favorite thing of all was when I got my dog Mando. He is crazy. But know that's the combination of most good dogs, right? [00:02:14] Speaker C: Crazy, but amazing, right? Yeah. And what is a gift that you guys have given someone that you were so excited to give it to them, or the way they responded? You're like, oh, that was fun. What's A gift that you've given that was really enjoyable. [00:02:25] Speaker D: We'll have Naomi go first for this one. [00:02:28] Speaker A: When one of my best friends, she broke her arm back when I was, like, seven, I gave her some brownies, rice Krispy treats, a balloon and a card. She wasn't there at the moment because she was still at the hospital, but I dropped it off. And when she came back to school, she was really happy. [00:02:47] Speaker C: So it was, like, there to welcome her home, probably, right? Yeah, that was probably very special. How about you, Lucas? [00:02:52] Speaker D: So one of my friends, Joey, when it was his birthday, I got him a remote control Grogu drone. [00:03:01] Speaker C: Ooh. And I bet that was very well received because things to fly around are always pretty fun. [00:03:06] Speaker E: Yeah, super true. All right, so if you guys could give the whole world one gift, everyone. [00:03:12] Speaker C: Gets one gift from you. One gift from you. [00:03:15] Speaker E: What would you give them? [00:03:16] Speaker D: I don't know. Probably either money or Nintendo switches, if we had some. [00:03:23] Speaker C: Right, okay, so if we could produce enough. Yeah. Okay. [00:03:26] Speaker E: How about you, Naomi? [00:03:27] Speaker A: I would give those who are homeless a home. And those who do have a home, a more better home where they're more happy and it's their dream place where they can be happy always and they'll never be sad. [00:03:40] Speaker E: So you kind of go back to. [00:03:41] Speaker C: Your sense of coziness, right? That's kind of like what you'd be establishing for them. I love it. And so I think throughout our season, this year, the whole world is getting some really good gifts from all of our co hosts. So it's pretty fun to be able. [00:03:54] Speaker E: To hear those things. All right, before we jump into the. [00:03:57] Speaker C: Material, I'm just going to open us in prayer and then we'll get started. [00:04:00] Speaker F: Sound good? [00:04:01] Speaker E: God, of amazing gifts, as we think. [00:04:03] Speaker C: About the gift of your son, I pray that you would just give us all a joy that overflows and allow us to see him for who he is. Pray this in your precious name. Amen. [00:04:11] Speaker D: Amen. [00:04:12] Speaker E: All right, so here's my question for you guys. [00:04:14] Speaker C: Think of a time when you received a really fantastic gift. Oh, we were just talking about that. What did that gift, Lucas, make you want to say? What did it make you want to do when you got that gift? When you got your dog, what did. [00:04:24] Speaker E: It make you want to say? [00:04:26] Speaker D: I was like, oh, my gosh, I can't believe it. [00:04:30] Speaker C: Right? So, like, you were like, right? Yeah, yeah. And then did you say some of that out loud or were you just really quiet? Like, oh, I don't know what to say, or like, did you jump up and down? [00:04:39] Speaker A: I think I even cried of happiness. [00:04:41] Speaker D: For the first time of my life. [00:04:43] Speaker F: Right? [00:04:43] Speaker A: Yep. [00:04:44] Speaker C: Because you're like, I know what this is. Naomi, how about you? What did getting a really fantastic gift. What did it make you say and what did it make you do? [00:04:51] Speaker A: At first, I was just in shock and quiet when I heard we were going to get the dog because we went to the place we looked at them and my parents said, strictly, we're not going to get one. But then we came home and my dad called the place kind of without my mom's permission. And I was just like, seat twist at first. But then once we were in the car, I was, like, jumping up and down in the seat like, this is happening. [00:05:16] Speaker C: That's so exciting, right? That feeling of excitement. So how long have you guys had the dog? [00:05:22] Speaker D: Almost a year. So maybe about half a year in dog year is about one or two. We got him at the end of. [00:05:30] Speaker A: Our school year, towards the end. [00:05:33] Speaker C: So it's still kind of, like fresh in your minds, right? Like what that anticipation, what that crying from happiness is. You're like, that was all good. [00:05:39] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:05:40] Speaker D: He is growing so big. [00:05:42] Speaker C: Yeah, he is. [00:05:43] Speaker A: Yeah, he's a good size. [00:05:45] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:05:46] Speaker C: Maybe I'll get to meet him someday. That'd be pretty fun. But these gifts, right? They make us jump up and down. They make us cry for happiness. They make our heart race, right? You're like, oh, my goodness. In today's passage, another group of people are given the good news about God's Christmas gift. Let's see what they do and how they receive it. [00:06:03] Speaker A: And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people today. In the town of David, a savior has been born. To you. He is the Messiah. The word. This will be a sign to you. You will find the baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. Suddenly, a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, glory to God in the highest heaven and on earth, peace to those whom his favors rest. [00:06:50] Speaker D: So they hurried off and found Mary. [00:06:52] Speaker A: And Joseph and the baby who was. [00:06:55] Speaker D: Lying in the major. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child. And all who heard it were amazed and what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for the things that they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. [00:07:26] Speaker E: All right, so a couple of questions. [00:07:28] Speaker C: For you guys on this passage. We're looking at Luke, chapter two. And we see all these movement, right, of the angel. And all these people are responding. It's a beautiful passage. How did the angel say the good news would make the shepherds feel? [00:07:41] Speaker A: The angel said that it would make the shepherds feel really joyful and along with the rest of the world. [00:07:51] Speaker C: What was the first thing that the angels, though, were like? You might be tempted to feel this, but do not be. [00:07:56] Speaker A: Do not be afraid. [00:07:58] Speaker F: Right? Isn't that interesting? [00:07:59] Speaker C: They're like, no. The very thing that you might actually initially respond to in fear is actually going to be the same thing that causes you great joy. So I love how the angels were like, don't go with that emotion. Go with this one. Right. All right, Lucas, what reasons did the angels give to feel joyful and to celebrate? What were they telling the shepherds? [00:08:16] Speaker E: That you should be happy because of this. [00:08:18] Speaker D: That Jesus was born and that he was the Savior. [00:08:24] Speaker C: Yeah, that should be a big deal. The thing you've been waiting for is happening, right? Yeah. Kind of like when you were in the car on the way to get the dog, you're like, the thing you've been wanting and thinking was not going to happen is happening. [00:08:37] Speaker D: But there was a chance that might have not happened because someone could have adopted it before us. [00:08:41] Speaker C: Right. You're like, woo. We gotta get there fast. [00:08:43] Speaker E: Super true. All right, so pick out all the. [00:08:45] Speaker C: Things the shepherds did in response to Jesus'arrival. [00:08:47] Speaker E: How did these shepherds respond at first? [00:08:50] Speaker A: The shepherds were discussing and they were. [00:08:53] Speaker F: Like, oh, my gosh. [00:08:54] Speaker A: That just happened. An angel came down and said, the savior of the whole world is just mean. [00:09:01] Speaker C: They had to be like, what is going on? [00:09:04] Speaker A: And then they went to see the baby and they were just like glorifying God and they're like, this is truly the Savior. [00:09:12] Speaker C: Right? You remember when those emotions, like you were talking about, it's so good. You were talking about how you cried for happiness for the first time. Did you choose that? No, it just kind of like bubbled out of you. [00:09:21] Speaker E: Right? [00:09:21] Speaker D: Barely any. [00:09:22] Speaker F: Yeah. [00:09:23] Speaker E: Right. [00:09:23] Speaker C: Well, yeah, I'm sure it was barely any. But you see with the shepherds and the angels, right, their emotions, the shepherds are like, all these emotions are just coming up. I see Jesus and we just start worshiping God because it's so strong inside of us. So their joy is overflowing. In a rush to see Jesus, as you just said, their joy overflowed in a desire to tell other people about him and their joy overflowed in praise to God. Let's notice one more thing. What did Mary and the shepherds do as they went back to their normal lives? [00:09:50] Speaker A: Mary she just took a moment to grasp just that memory because it was, like, one of those moments where you want to always remember. Like, there's some moments where you're just like, I wish I would remember that always. I just want to remember it. And she just tried to like, I'm so happy this is happening. I'm just going to grasp this moment. [00:10:13] Speaker C: I love it. Right? We learned a lot from that. So she treasured it up. [00:10:16] Speaker E: Right? [00:10:17] Speaker C: I'm like, oh, it's so beautiful. [00:10:18] Speaker E: But such a good explanation, Naomi. [00:10:20] Speaker C: When we look at what they do, they're kind of liKe. They're just, like, trying to soak it all in, right? And then they're, like, just telling other people about it as they go. Jesus'birth brought great joy to everyone who knew about it. And Jesus can bring joy to us, too. Even in times of sadness, hurt, and worry. Like Mary, we can keep thinking over what we know about Jesus. And like the shepherds, we can keep thanking God for what we know about Jesus. When we do, we discover joy. God's Christmas gift brings joy that lasts. So I'd love to hear from you guys what good news about who Jesus is and what he is. Like, might be helpful for you to just think about today. To be storing up, to be treasuring, just like Mary did. [00:11:00] Speaker E: Lucas, what do you think? [00:11:01] Speaker D: To, like, just store it up. [00:11:03] Speaker A: It would just be like, oh, yes. [00:11:06] Speaker C: So perfect explanation of what that process looks like. What would you specifically think about Jesus? What about Jesus makes you feel like. [00:11:14] Speaker D: Oh, yes, the savior has been born. Finally, he has come to earth. [00:11:19] Speaker C: Like, if you were the shepherd, it'd be like, wow, that's like, a real thing. And so for you now, knowing that the Savior was born, right, and then went on to live a sinless life, died on the cross for your sins today, what do you get to think about Jesus? [00:11:33] Speaker D: That we get to worship him every Sunday and that he'll come down one day and rescue all who believes in him. [00:11:43] Speaker C: Naomi, how about you? What do you get to ponder about Jesus today? [00:11:47] Speaker A: Well, just the fact that he was born, he was crucified, he rose from the dead. It just gives you that feeling of safety and relief and just like, knowing that you get to come, as Luca said, to Sunday every day just to worship him, and you don't even have to go to church to worship him. You can worship him at any time, any place, anywhere. [00:12:10] Speaker C: Yeah. You're thinking about what he's done for you and how that makes you feel, right? Like, on a moment by moment basis, like, anywhere you are, no matter what that looks like. I love it so much. All right, who would like to close us in prayer today? Do you want to both do it? [00:12:23] Speaker D: We can both do it. [00:12:24] Speaker F: Okay. [00:12:26] Speaker A: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this day. Thank you that you are there for us. You always have our backs and we can always have our faith in you. Thank you that you sent your son Jesus and he died for us, not for himself, but for us for our sins. And just please keep everyone who is listening and everyone who's not listening safe and just let them have a wonderful day. [00:12:56] Speaker D: Thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and please help that everybody can be healthy and stay strong. Amen. [00:13:07] Speaker C: Amen. All right, can you guys close our podcast today by wishing our listeners a Merry Christmas together? [00:13:13] Speaker B: Merry Christmas. [00:13:14] Speaker C: Oh, that was so good. All right, everybody, we'll be back with you again tomorrow. [00:13:19] Speaker B: You sa me come Let us adore Christ alone We'll sing his name forever we'll sing his name forever we'll sing his name forever cry alone I think glory to the new nature glory to the day close.
