Speaker 1 00:00:13 Welcome to Podcast 2022, the Adventure of Christmas. Speaker 0 00:00:35 Welcome Speaker 2 00:00:35 Back to the Village Kids Advent podcast. It is so fun that we get to keep adventuring with you guys, and I'm so glad that you're able to join us. Today we're gonna be talking about praise and turning up the music and, um, so many things that I feel like might just be a bright light in your day. And so I wanna introduce my guest to you today. I would love for you to tell us what is your first name? Speaker 3 00:00:56 Sophia. Speaker 2 00:00:57 And what grade are you in? Sophia? Fourth. And what is your favorite thing about fourth grade? Speaker 3 00:01:02 Reading. Speaker 2 00:01:03 Ooh, what kind of things do you like to read? Speaker 3 00:01:06 Graphic novels. Speaker 2 00:01:07 Oh, those are so popular. Graphic novels are pretty fun. Have you ever read the, um, action Bible? That's what I'm looking for in my brain. The Action Action Bible. Yeah. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. That's pretty fun, right? Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, do you enjoy just like, kinda how it's all laid out on the paper? Or what do you enjoy about graphic novels the most? That go faster. Speaker 3 00:01:25 Like they have, like, they talk with the bubbles. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> like, and I think it's how they, they're set up. Mm-hmm. Speaker 2 00:01:31 <affirmative>. It's easy to understand, fun to interact with. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. All right Sophia. So we are gonna spend a little bit of time before we dig into our material today, just learning about you. So tell me, what is one thing that you are looking forward to about Christmas time this year? Speaker 3 00:01:46 Celebrating Jesus' birth and playing in the snow. Speaker 2 00:01:49 You're a snow girl. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>? Mm mm My kids are snow kids. I do not enjoy the snow. I'm from California, so I like the beach. Um, what do you like to do in the snow? Speaker 3 00:02:01 Snowball fights. Speaker 2 00:02:02 Snowball fights. Have you ever used one of those like snowball makers that makes those like perfect? Yeah. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Um, and so who usually wins a snowball fight in your life? Who are you usually competing against? Speaker 3 00:02:12 My sister. Speaker 2 00:02:13 That's what I had a feeling you were gonna say. And your twin sister, right? Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And, um, who usually wins? Speaker 3 00:02:18 I thank her Speaker 2 00:02:19 <laugh>. You're like, but it's still fun in the process and I still enjoy it. Oh my goodness. I love it. And so we are talking about adventures. Tell me what is a favorite adventure that you have been on? Speaker 3 00:02:29 Um, driving to Florida and staying there for two weeks. Speaker 2 00:02:32 That sounds so fun. And what was your favorite part about that adventure? Speaker 3 00:02:35 Going night, swimming and going to the beach, Speaker 2 00:02:38 Like night swimming the ocean, or night swimming in a pool. Speaker 3 00:02:40 I think the pool, because we had our own private pool and a hot tub. Speaker 2 00:02:44 Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And so you can kind of like use it anytime you want to. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, just enjoy that. And what is your least favorite thing about adventures? Speaker 3 00:02:52 Um, if we're in like a very sunny place mm-hmm. <affirmative> getting sunburnt. Speaker 2 00:02:56 Oh right. It's like too much of a good thing becomes a bad thing. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Yep. That's very true. Too much of a good thing can become a bad thing. Although I personally feel like I'm solar powered, so I really enjoy also getting as much sun as possible. That's pretty fun. So tell me a little bit, where are we going today? What are we talking about today? Speaker 3 00:03:15 Praise. Speaker 2 00:03:15 Praise. It's exactly right. And so we see that Jesus' birth cus a whole entire army of angels to sing to God for bringing us peace. And I'm pretty excited because we see that these angels come out and they're declaring their hearts are just full of praise. Right. It's just like overflowing and they're filling the sky with this praise. So I have a quick question for you. Has anyone ever stopped being your friend? Speaker 3 00:03:41 Yes. Speaker 2 00:03:42 Do you remember how that felt? Speaker 3 00:03:44 It didn't feel Speaker 2 00:03:45 Good. Yeah. It feels pretty sad, right? Yeah. When people stop being our friends, it's probably one of the most heartbreaking things that we can experience. Um, it's confusing and it's something that I usually think about a lot. Kinda like eats up our minds, right? And it can last for a while, but today's story is an ear bursting celebration of friendship being mended. And so we're gonna be talking about that. How how is friendship mended? And so, um, it's one of my biggest prayers for the advent season. And so as we talk about that, where are we in the Bible, Luke? We are in Luke chapter two. And so we've been making our way through the gospel of Luke and the story of Jesus at the very beginning. And so as we're here, we see that an angel appeared to the shepherds and half blinded them with his glory. Can you imagine? You'd be like, um, can I see you? You're so bright. What is happening? But imagine that a whole army of angels would do to them, right? That'd be pretty bright. And so I want us, as Miss Sophia is gonna read us the passage. I want us to be looking out for what the angels wanted to sing about. What were they singing about? Go ahead and read us the passage. Luke two versus 13 and 14. Speaker 3 00:04:58 And suddenly there was with the angel, a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and Saint glory to God in the highest and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased. Speaker 2 00:05:17 All right. So we have a very large group of angels from heaven joining the first angel. And all of a sudden all of them are singing. And what are they saying? They're saying glory to God in the highest and on earth. Peace among those with whom he is pleased. That's what the angels wanted to sing about. They wanted to sing about glory, which is actually our whole theme for this advent at Village Church. We're just focusing on glory. What does this mean? We talked about it on the first day of the podcast. We're seeing it show up here and there. What does glory mean? And it means it's basically like this big, beautiful, bright, shiny presence of who God is coming into our stories and affecting it. And he's saying that this glory is gonna bring us peace. And so if you were a shepherd Sophia, what would you have done? When all the angels appeared in the sky, Speaker 3 00:06:04 I would be like very shocked. Speaker 2 00:06:06 Mm-hmm. Speaker 3 00:06:07 <affirmative>. And I would like automatically say, these angels must be from God. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Speaker 2 00:06:13 And and why is that? Speaker 3 00:06:14 Because he is like angels watching over us and they just appeared. Mm-hmm. Speaker 2 00:06:21 <affirmative>. And it's like your heart would just probably like explode in like wonder and in like joy, like, oh my goodness. Thank you for telling me. When do you find that you sing? When do you sing in your life? Do you like to sing? Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Speaker 3 00:06:33 Yes. When, when we do worship songs in church and sometimes in the car mm-hmm. Speaker 2 00:06:39 <affirmative>. I really think that if we truly understood what Jesus was like we would sing all of the time and our hearts would be full of praise. And I think one of the things that this angel choir teaches us is that we, um, get to start singing and we get to kind of just worship him in the way that our hearts are full. So we talked about glory a little bit. I wanna read the definition of glory. Glory is when God's brilliance can be seen in blinding, bright, powerful light. Glory to God is what we shout when we want to thank God who is absolutely awesomely beautiful and wonderful. We want everyone to know about the power and the wonder that belongs to God. Right? Like, we want them to know and see him for who he is. So imagine what it would've been like when the angels were singing. How does God made it possible for people to have peace with Jesus? Speaker 3 00:07:29 Because he makes peace. Speaker 2 00:07:33 He makes peace. How do we become like at peace of the Jesus? What is the good news of the gospel that can mend our relationships, that can bring us together Speaker 3 00:07:42 Knowing that Jesus loves us and he helps us do right things. Speaker 2 00:07:48 Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And what do we need to do in order for Jesus to be Lord of our life? What do we need to do in order for Jesus to make peace in our lives, Speaker 3 00:07:55 Believe in him, and know that he is our only God. Mm-hmm. Speaker 2 00:08:01 <affirmative>. And so before Jesus came, we were at war with God, right? There is like a broken relationship and there's a broken relationship with other people. But now that Jesus is here, we can have peace, we can have joy, we can have love. And you're exactly right. When we believe in him, when we put our trust in him that he's gonna be our savior. We see that. We get to have that connection and we get to be able to see that he absolutely loves us and that he fills our heart with peace. And so what is one of the things that you love most about God? Speaker 3 00:08:29 That he protects us. And he will never let us. Like he'll never let us down. Mm-hmm. Speaker 2 00:08:36 <affirmative>, he's so, he's like faithful. He's constant and he's protecting of us. I absolutely agree. And those are some of my favorite qualities too. Is there a song, is there like a praise song? Is there a song that the words or the way the music is that it just fills your heart with praise and you enjoy singing? Speaker 3 00:08:53 Um, I can't think of one right now. Speaker 2 00:08:56 Do you ever have these moments where you're like, I know 90 songs and I can't think of any of them right now? Mm-hmm. <affirmative> like this moment right now? Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Yeah. I have the same thing all the time. I'm like, oh my goodness, if you asked me this before, I had 40 million. Um, one of the songs that I really enjoyed, there's a song by Hillsong called Peace. It's when you're looking for it, it's P space, E space, A space c, p, space E if that's how you spell peace, I think I just spelled it right. But you have to Google all these spaces, which is totally strange. And it talks about Jesus as our prince of peace. And that peace is a promise that he keeps. And that is a song that always fills my heart with praise and I just love to worship him with. And so I'm pretty excited that we get to have this opportunity to praise Jesus, to turn up the music in our lives. So I hope today that you would take an opportunity as you're listening to our podcast, maybe after this or throughout your day, to just kinda lean into some good Christmas music. Not Christmas music that maybe sings about trees, right? But Christmas music that maybe worships Jesus and is reminding us of his birth and what this means for our stories. And so, Sophia, will you close us in prayer today? Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Thanks. Speaker 3 00:10:02 Dear Lord, thank you for this wonderful day and thank you that we all have you to our watch over us and protect us. Thank you that you saved our sins and rows again. Thank you that you help us choose right from wrong. Amen. Speaker 2 00:10:20 Amen. And um, can you just close our time together by wishing our listeners a Merry Christmas? Speaker 3 00:10:25 Merry Christmas. Speaker 2 00:10:26 Have a great day.
